"Cost-Based Assessment of Decommissioning Alternatives and Financial Strategies" Presented at Waste Management '05
March 3, 2005 - For the annual Waste Management Symposium in Tucson, Sargent & Lundy co-authored a paper on nuclear power plant decommissioning costs. The discussion presented a cost-based assessment of two decommissioning alternatives in the context of today's changing environment: DECON - immediate decommissioning after shutdown - and Delayed DECON (SAFSTOR) - delayed decommissioning after shutdown. In addition, Sargent & Lundy co-chaired sessions addressing Nuclear Power Plant Deactivation & Decommissioning and D&D Perspectives in Clearance of Radioactive Material for Release. Sargent & Lundy's Dr. Jas Devgun also served as the organizer and primary instructor for a Training Course on Safety and Management of Risks in Nuclear Power Plants.

Bruce A 3&4 Restart Project Recognized with Second Award
January 4, 2005 - The Bruce A 3&4 Restart Project has been recognized again with an industry award, this time by its selection as a PennWell Projects of the Year recipient. The award was presented to Bruce Power during the Keynote Session at Power-Gen International in Orlando. The ASLF joint venture and RCM Technologies were also recognized at the event as key project participants. As announced previously, the Bruce Restart was honored in late 2004 with the Schreyer award, Canada's highest distinction for consulting engineers.
ASLF's scope of work included engineering, procurement and construction of more than 45 different modification projects. These ranged from maintenance overhauls of existing equipment to installation of a new qualified power supply and a new secondary control area. Safety, fire, and seismic systems were all upgraded to meet or exceed current regulatory standards. The team completed approximately 300 design change notices per unit.
