Alternatives Analysis Consulting Services
Sargent & Lundy analyzes power supply alternatives and develops power supply portfolios that include alternative energy projects as well as traditional generation technologies. S&L maintains a large in-house data base and extensive expertise on a variety of power plant technologies through its participation in a large number of power plant development projects, and in a wide range of generation technologies. We can compare typical generation technologies with distributed generation and energy efficiency projects. We use the appropriate economic analysis methodologies to compare options with different expected life, plant performance characteristics, and capital and operating costs.
Sargent & Lundy Clients often use S&L alternatives analyses in their in-house planning models because the assumptions and data used to develop and compare options are consistent and up-to-date.
Recent Projects
- S&L prepared cost and performance data for coal, nuclear, gas and renewable resource alternatives to be used in a resource planning study. Data provided included overnight capital costs for greenfield and brownfield sites, construction payment curves, fixed and variable O&M, and performance assumptions (heat rate, emissions rates, capacity factor, outage rates, etc.).
- S&L has performed renewable options studies for several clients and evaluated bids from RFPs for renewable energy.
- S&L has prepared the need for power analysis and energy alternatives chapters for nuclear plant Early Site Permit Applications, Combined Operation License Applications, and Environmental Impact Statements for Re-licensing. These included energy efficiency, distributed generation and storage alternatives.
- S&L evaluated alternatives for adding 300 MW of peaking capacity to an existing station. S&L estimated capital costs, operating performance, and O&M costs for five turbine models.
