Site Selection
Sargent & Lundy's approach to site selection studies is extremely cost-effective. By integrating engineering, environmental, and economic disciplines, we ensure rigorous evaluation of worthy plant sites and elimination of sites that fail to meet basic siting criteria. Our site selection approach also documents the siting process for input to environmental impact assessments and other reports that may be required by government agencies.
Proven experience
Our environmental scientists and engineers have spent years collaborating on project teams to effectively balance various siting engineering, environmental, and licensing requirements and constraints. We have conducted more than 70 power plant siting studies, 50 transmission line evaluations, and 45 formal environmental impact assessments. We have also prepared hundreds of permit applications and conducted environmental due diligence studies for power projects.
Broad range of clients
Our experience includes siting studies for all major power plant technologies, including:
- Pulverized coal
- Fluidized bed combustion
- Integrated coal gasification/combined cycle
- Simple cycle and combined cycle combustion turbines
- Hydroelectric power
- Nuclear power
We also have performed siting studies for waste disposal facilities and energy storage facilities. The scope of the studies has ranged from regions as large as 60,000 square miles to the evaluation of two alternative sites.
